How it Plays
The game follows a level format, wherein each level unlocks the next. The story is mostly linear, but can be influenced via the corruption mechanics in the game, with the game’s scenes and ending changing based on Orchid’s corruption level. Presently the subscribestar version features 4 levels, and the DEMO features only the first as well as accompanying scenes.
Unlike my other game, N.i.P., levels here are not traditional maps but instead use a new mechanic: cards. Each level is a certain number of draws, and each draw can range from an enemy, ambient encounter, or a ‘blank’ encounter. Each draw pulls three cards from a ‘deck’, and at the end of each level the player is tasked with fighting a boss. Beating a boss is generally the way to progress to the subsequent level.
Between levels there is a ‘hub world’ which can also be influenced and has its own corruption mechanics as well as features to strengthen or weaken the player. Both actions in the hub world and actions in levels can result in buffs or maluses, some of these are temporary while others may end up permanent – coming either as a result of Orchid’s own conscious action or of her loss to the hands of the corrupted enemies she faces.
