きっかけは一冊の手記だった。
偶然手に入れた手書きの手記に記されていた“地図にない村”。
そこは――
狂い咲く椿、一足早い紅葉、沢山の赤い花々。
気が狂いそうに赤い森に囲まれた山奥の寒村、来待（きまち）村。
青年はその村に来訪神（まれびと）として迎えられる。
ようこそ、おいでくださいました。御廻様（おめぐりさま）。
今年の祭りは二十年に一度の特別な式年大祭でございます。
この者たちは、この特別な年に訪れる御廻様のために生まれ育った
斎（いつき）の者たちでございます。
ふたりは毎夜交代で伽に参ります。
村の美しい娘を一夜妻として神に差し出す……
これは古代からつづく大切な斎の儀式。
神を歓待するための、神聖な行為なのです。
