The answer is more or less yes, the characters who were deleted for the remake were redundant or lost their place in the story and most of them had very few screen time, some characters were fussed though that was the case for characters that had one noticeable feature like the case with Helen and Maya, Maya was mostly a non character but her secret was interesting so now Helen has it.
